On the North Side, more damage has been done.
The large 3 H.P. Boiler was shifted which broke all the steam connections to the pump and the winch.
This was very unfortunate as the headings had been excavated about 4 ft each way, but not properly timbered. There is now 13 ft of water in the shaft.
9. Most of the coolies' sheds here also were swept away and the miners' quarters, which was built, lost a good part of the roof.
10. At Lok Lo Ha, the inside portion of the jetty was wrecked, the outside part, consisting of large hardwood piles, on which a hand derrick crane was fixed, is still standing. The stores collected there in a shed have been scattered and blown up the hills. Trolley wheels and trollies were carried long distances, I think, by the force of the waves, as the water mark is 4 ft above the floor level inside the village houses.
11. The loss to the Railway is chiefly the delay which will be involved in collecting the stores and getting that department into working order.
The re-erection of coolie lines will cost a good deal on account of the scarcity of material and the great demand for labour.
